Rene Gutierrez 40 Yard Shot Ties the Match

This match started 7:30pm since many of the players could not make the regular 6:30pm starting time. We had about 55+ spectators for this match. Most of them were rooting for Maidstone Market. From the start, Maidstone Market was controlling the match. Tortorella Pools was making plenty of mistakes at the defensive end. Several times Tortorella lost the ball which gave Maidstone a scoring chance. Tortorella offensive drive would peter out half way into the Maidstone Market half. Maidstone was able to score when Antonio Padilla had the ball and fired a cross to Gehider Garcia, who from about 5 yards fired the ball into the far post net.

Play would continue with Maidstone attacking for most of the half. So with about ten minutes left in the half, Tortorella Pools started to attack and was the better team. On one play, Rene Gutierrez crossed the ball to the far side where Stiven Orrego hit the air ball into the hands of Alex Mesa of Maidstone Market. Tortorella still attacking was given a direct kick at mid field. Gutierrez would take the 40 yard direct kick. Gutierrez hit the ball over the hands of Mesa and just under the cross bar to score for Tortorella to tie up the match.

Maidstone in Control

During the second half of play, Maidstone was in control of the match. Tortorella was again playing poorly at defense. On offense, Tortorella fired their direct kicks high into the air. They could have just given the ball to Maidstone. With Tortorella playing poorly, Maidstone was able to score. This time Ernesto Valverde had the ball about 10 yards from the Tortorella goal. Valverde back passed the ball to Luis Correa who shot a grounder from about 5 yards into the Tortorella net to give Maidstone the lead. After that point it was all downhill for Tortorella. Tortorella was playing poorly with no effective offensive drive. Maidstone was able to move the ball around the field without much difficultly. With Maidstone in control, they had a fast break. Gehider Garcia had the ball and dribbled down into the Tortorella left post. As Craig Caiazza came out to block the shot, Garcia passed the ball to the far side where Mario Olaya was standing. Olaya from about 2 yards out fired the ball into the open net to give Maidstone the win with just minutes left in the match.

With that win, Maidstone Market has won the championship match for the 8th time in the row. Can they win their 9th next season?
