This season, the championship game was delayed due to the field being reseeded. Almost two months went before the game could be played. The field was in good shape but the lighting was in poor shape. About half the bulbs were burnt out which made the south side of the field dark. It's hard to play with the poor lighting. With the game being played so late into the fall, the fall season was canceled since a full season could not have been played before the weather would preventthe games from being played.

The championship game had about 50 spectators with great weather. The temperature was in the low 60's. The championship game was well played with only one goal being scored on the field. The other two goals were penalty kicks. Given the fact that the games this season were played with full size goals, one would expect many goals. During the season, the goals per game averaged about six(6). Both teams played a very good defensive game. All in all, Maidstone Market had better passing with their goalie, Carlos Barahona, taking the direct kicks made it exciting to watch if the ball would hit the Tortorella Pools net. On that side of the field, the goalie looks directly into the lights and at times has a hard time tacking the ball. The first on field goal was scored about three minutes into the game by Maidstone Market. This is the seventeenth time that Maidstone Market won the championship game.

Remember, Be the first to score and you have a 73% chance of winning it!

Maidstone Market takes early lead

This was going to be a good game. From the start, Maidstone came out strong and in the third minute of the game, Xavi Piedramartel got the ball inside the Tortorella Pools goalie box. Piedramartel dribbled toward the goal and was able shoot into the net past the on coming Tortorella Pools goalie, Aljandro Bolanos. After that, both sides would attack with many shots on goal. The ball was fired but the ball could not hit the net. Maidstone goalie, Carlos Barahona, would take the direct kicks. He would always fire the ball directly at the goal but for a goalie, the ball would be lost in the glare of the lights. The south goal faces the lights and for a goalie, it is hard to see the ball. When he kicked, the Tortorella Poos side just asked themselves, would Bolanos see the ball and block the shot. Well for this game, he as able to block all the direct kicks. In this half, Maidstone had the better passing and play making. Tortorella Pools passing was not on par with Maidstone and many times were attacking against a larger number of defensive Maidstone players.

Two Penalty kicks decide the game

Play was about the same during the second half but Tortorella Pools would be firing on goal where Barahona would have a hard time seeing the ball. Tortorella had better passing and toward the end of the half, had many more chances to score compared to Maidstone. So many crosses into the goalie area but their forwards just could not finish. Maidstone Market scored again on a penalty kick with about 13 minutes left in the game. Barahona would take the kick to score and basically won the game.

After the Maidstone goal, Tortorella Pools increased the pressure but could not score with a shot. A penalty kick was called against Maidstone with about 10 minutes left. Alberto Nieto took the kick and scored. After that goal, Tortorella Pools had chances but in the end could not score. A great win for Maidstone Market after a great defensive game. This is the seventeenth win for Maidstone Market.
